I don't normally do layouts, though I did mention that I will try to do more of it ... I think that should be one of my 2012's resolutions! :)

Here's a layout I did as a gift to my Dad for his birthday... photo was taken before my brother took his flight to the US. I hope we will be able to take another complete family photo again soon :)

I love putting layouts in shadow boxes because it allows me to give more depth to the layouts I create. But I'm thinking of another method to create 3D layouts as well... If I can stop procrastinating and step up to make that soon, I'll share it here... :P

Ink & watercolour

To those who know me long enough, they would know that I have been drawing and doodling since I could hold a pen :) Back in school, I was doodling when the teacher was teaching... frankly speaking, I am not sure how I paid attention to the teacher and passed my exams since I am mostly doodling... I even mastered to doodle as if I'm taking notes!

Though, I kinda stopped doodling altogether when I advanced to college.... at that time, I somehow stopped doodling altogether. I think I stopped reading books too! (well, except textbooks.. boo hoo)

There was an obvious drought in drawing for many years in my life from college to when I started working.... it was during the last couple of years that I dived back into the 'artistic side' of my soul. Recently I have started drawing more and it feels good :)

All the illustration you see above are my originals in ink and watercolour. They are available in my Etsy shop if you wanna get your hands on them. They come in the black frame ready for you to display it.. all signed and dated... erm, the sheep stays with me.. LOL...

3-in-1

3-in-1 brings to my mind, pre-mix coffee... that is the first thing that comes to my mind (erm, cos I'm hopelessly addicted to coffee).

This time around, 3-in-1 is a special request by a sweet girl for me to make a custom card for her boyfriend. It's for Chinese New Year, Valentine's and his Birthday...

It was quite a task actually... I was thinking of how I'm going to incorporate all 3 elements into one cover.. and then, I thought, maybe I can make the card into something like a mini 'album'.... that will give me more room to add more elements and make the card more special :) So, that's how this idea was borned :)

The dude is one lucky dude... Not many girlfriends will order cards for their boyfriends... normally, they expect cards from them... not vice versa *winks*

Have been keeping my time busy with writing and drawing... well, I would say drawing and painting more than writing. Baby steps, baby steps... I have been wanting to get back to writing but procrastination has a very strong hold on me :P

Bright & Sunny

Took this picture on one of the sunniest days this year. Sometime last week when the sun was burning down on us here in Malaysia..

I find it quite hilarious sometimes when I think about how I am willing to go out and walk under the hot, scorching sun when I am on vacation to places like Bangkok or Bali but when I'm back home here, I do my utmost best to stay indoors especially when the sun is out!

Was just telling my hubby the other day that maybe we have to pretend that we're on vacation here sometimes and go out and explore even if it means getting all hot and sweaty :P Someday soon, maybe :)

My Baby

Penny is the loveliest cat I can ever want :) She's gentle, cuddly and an overall good girl... she mews loudly during bath time but at least she doesn't run all around the bathroom. She just stays in one spot and mews pathetically... :P But she does like it when she's clean and fluffy white afterwards.

She has big, round shiny eyes and when she looks at you, you automatically melt... haha... But she's very, very shy.. so not many people have seen her heart-melting looks.

She loves sleeping, napping on my work chair, on the bed and on the cushion I sit on.. She looks really lovely when she sleeps too.. sometimes she covers her face with her paws :)

She has completely captured my heart.. even when she's naughty sometimes, I can't seem to get really mad at her... she's my baby and I love her! :)

Christmas Cards

Ok... so the title is lame... haha... I can't think of any other names for the title as of now... Anyway, it's a straight to the point title... :P

I know I've been away from blogging for a while again and I'm sorry.... Have been busy with some orders and craft market preparations the previous 2 weeks or so... am still in the midst of finishing up an order but decided to take a breather and 'appear' here again. I miss my card-making friends... I so need to make my rounds and say 'hi' to each and everyone on their blogs again :D

Just wanted to share this set of Christmas cards printed based on my illustrations :) This year, I didn't make many handmade cards, instead, I decided to print out my illustrations. Change things up a little, you know? haha....

My Happiest Moment

My happiest moment when I'm able to sit down and reminisce about all my happy moments! :) I don't have a single "happiest moment" because there are many moments in my life that makes me really, really happy and it's impossible for me to single just one out!

Like when my hubby proposed to me, when we got married, when I had my first article published about my handmade journals & crafts (and then a second article & a third....), when we went holidaying in Melbourne (and I fell in love with the beauty of everything there) and most recently when we were in China and I was mesmerized by the natural wonders in Jiu Zhai Gou. There are just too many 'happiest moment' for me and I am grateful for every single happy moment.

I am learning to be grateful and happy about the little things in life because they all matters :) And what better way to capture all these bits and pieces of happiness than with a camera that has the tagline 'Happy Photography'? :)

I want an Olympus Pen... it's pretty, it's awesome and it's my happy photography camera! :)

Little Girl on the Go

I've started drawing again lately. It's something I have not done for quite a long while. I still remember vividly when I used to draw... that was back when I was in secondary school... When the teacher is teaching, when I'm back home.. practically anytime spare time would be spent drawing, reading or watching tv! :P

I thank my hubby, of course, for his encouragements... always supporting me in my arts and crafting endeavours. I thank Rekha for encouraging me to get my illustrations printed into postcards and notebook covers and sharing new ideas with me :)

I only printed 3 of the illustrations as book covers... wanted to see how the response will be like :)

Umbrella of Love

I don't know about you but I *am* definitely needing a couch day! I seem to be bustling around a lot after coming back from our 'holiday' (somehow, it's very tiring to go on holidays... LOL... walked a LOT) and have not really had the time to sit down and just be a couch potato.

And I'm the kind who loves and needs *ME* time. I need time alone to just mind my own business. That's makes me happy and if I have not had the chance to do so, I feel like I have not rested... haha... do you have idiosyncrasies such as mine? Care to share? :)

Coffee Lovers

Painted this little sweetie on the day iPhone 4s was launched, which I found out a day later was also the day Steve Jobs passed away. Am still sad over that piece of news but well, life goes on and I can't stay in this state for whatever reasons. I must live and be happy for that is what life is really about!

This little canvas art is painted with acrylic paint and sealed with Mod Podge. I love that she is hugging a huge mug of coffee! :) See the smile? It's a HUGE one. My normal canvas drawings doesn't have smile this big... you notice, they really don't! Oh, I gave her blush on her cheeks too but it ain't so obvious.. just a dash of colour :)

I'm going to enjoy MY cuppa coffee now :)

Travels : China

Of all the places in the world I thought I'll visit, I never thought China would be one I visit before Italy or Greece.. why? I don't know... I always thought visiting China is for old people... so I thought I will one day visit the "place of my roots" (well, 3 generations ago we were from somewhere in the Mainland), when I'm much older and wiser.

But I went to China on my birthday this year with my hubby and his friends. We went to Beijing and visited The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, scaled the Great Wall, walked in the Summer Palace and strolled in grounds of the Temple of Heaven. I also fell in love with Hunan dishes there. Then we went to Jiuzhaigou and was mesmerized by the beauty nature bestowed on Earth and was totally captivated by it. Our last stop was Chengdu where my palate was numbed by Sichuan pepper while we had 'Ma la' steamboat. We also went to the Giant Panda Research Centre where we saw a Giant Panda greedily gobbling up his bamboo shoots, some sleeping in various positions, playing and even some baby pandas!

I love history of all kinds and I was wrong to think that China should only to be visited when I'm old.. I would love to explore other parts of it and learn more about the history & culture of the people, monuments, places... Photos and stories of the places I visited will be blogged over time here. Making Cards again...

Well, I have not participated in card challenges for a while.. since I started bookbinding and participating in craft markets, I really have not been active commenting on blogs and making cards for challenges and for that, I apologize. I do 'lurk' at some of my besties blogs, though... I'm never far away... but today, I thought, "Hey, it's time to participate again!".

Here's my card based on Card Pattern's Sketch #133

and then I made another one in another colour! haha... I kinda love them!

Unfortunately, every time I take pictures during the night, they don't turn out so well even after I tweaked them... hmmm, I may need to learn how to improve my editing skills! :P

Off to make a couple more cards and then it's journal sewing time again! Gonna be cutting fabrics and glueing them to covers tomorrow morning! :)

I've been busy sewing and binding books again lately because I'm chasing after time! haha.. There are a few craft markets back to back with each other and I needed to prepare more journals, just in case :) After this week, I am going to busy myself with one custom order and work on my other projects and let bookbinding take a back seat for a week :)

I've been lazy yesterday but today I busy myself with running to the post office and binding my journals together ;)

Oh, I participated in Arts For Grabs the last weekend and it was fun! I had an awesome time there, as usual!! I've said it before and I'm going to say it again! I love Annexe Gallery! The crowd this time is not as packed as the previous AFG but they are still great and it also gives me the opportunity to walk around and get to know other crafters better! So, I'm pretty happy with that :)

Here's the 'loot' that I brought home with me from AFG! I love everything there but I could only bring home some.. boo hoo... well, there's always next time! :)

My Birthday Treat!

My second Birthday surprise this year is from dear darling Mei! We had been talking about joining a clay making workshop for a couple of weeks and was deciding to sign up mid September after we both come back from our holidays but she decided to surprise me with a class right before my birthday! :D

I made a pencil holder (was attempting a mug.... but, erm...) and a small heart with Roy & my name etched on it.... while Mei made some really cute houses with birds perched on top of it! hehehe.. so cute, right?

Unicorn Love

Onwards, forward into the plains... wind on my face and in my hair... magic in the air... and when we grow weary we then we stop by a stream... my unicorn at my tow, we both enjoy the sights. If we see a bird or two, we may talk to them, maybe or stop and chat with a wise old owl :)

And here's my first birthday surprise! :) A blue unicorn to match my darling Anariel (who is pink, by the way). Darling Mel had a blue unicorn custom made for me to be Anariel's mate but because Anariel's horn broke (sobs!), the maker of the unicorns actually made me another pink unicorn who is the new mate for the blue one!

His name is Alyan, elvish for Blessed

Bookbinding is so-much-fun!

I conducted my second Kettle Stitching class 2 Saturdays ago but was away after that so I did not have the time to edit and blog about it! *drats, huh?*

It was yet another fun class! Totally different characters and personalities from the previous class :) I love meeting people from all walks of life and with different personalities cos I find people interesting!

They all sewed really beautiful journals but we always run out of time to take pictures... haha... too much fun chatting and sewing and eating!

Then in the afternoon, I had another session for Coptic Stitching :) Another fun bunch of folks, of course!

Alassea and Alyan decided to join this class and galloped around on the table... thankfully, my students were kind enough and did not mind. Anariel was nursing her broken horn, so she was taking a rest and did not join in the prancing around.

Next class will be on the 1st October! Will you be joining in the fun? :)

Markets @ Jaya One

Angelicquirk will be participating at this Saturday's Markets @ Jaya One. What is Markets @ Jaya One?

Well, it's a combination of 3 awesome markets, namely Chic Pop, Crafty and Bettr Weekend! :) You'll be able to get your fashion and vintage, handmade items and organic produce fix all at one location. How cool is that?

All you have to do is head down to Jaya One THIS Saturday from 11am-6pm to soak in the atmosphere and bring back some goodies or two! It's going to be AWESOME!

Angelicquirk is going to be at Booth 14. You'll be able to see us near the water feature where Old Town and Nando's are. I am a little bit hidden at the corner but do come and say, 'HI'. I will really appreciate it!

Making a mess

Do you like making a mess? haha.. maybe kids love it, but not adults, huh? Well, you guess wrong!

Cards-a-making : making a mess

Making a mess can be fun! Especially if you're creating art! Art is very subjective and I don't think anyone is 'not talented' or 'good enough' to do art. What you think is creative may not be so in another person's eyes and vice versa. Besides, art is a good outlet to relieve stress... well, to some of us, at least! :D

I would say I have loved art since a very young age. My mum tells me I draw and colour from very young... I think about 4-5 years old? I remember some of my drawings, actually.. but they have all since gone missing! Oh well, start again! :)

Kettle Stitching Workshop

For me, there's no better way to spend a Saturday morning than with a bunch of crafty souls who gathered together to learn the ancient art of bookbinding together :)

I had the honour to coach a group of lovely ladies (& a guy *hugs*) on how to bind journals using the kettle-stitching technique. I also shared with them on the brief history of bookbinding, the origination of Kettle Stitching and Coptic Stitching and the differences.

It was a fun time spent with them and sharing with them my passion for bookbinding. I personally find bookbinding and crafting (be it scrapbooking, mini albums, card making, etc... ) very therapeutic. I guess there's a difference working with our hands and seeing something come to fruition after spending time on it. The feeling is indescribable.

I love how the students were very keen to ask questions and I love sharing tips with them on how to do certain steps based on my experiences on what I've gone through :)

I am very blessed to have had a mentor who has great passion in bookbinding and I aspire to be even more generous in sharing my knowledge and passion for bookbinding to my students.

I will hold your hand in this bookbinding journey and share with you things I've learned from my own journey and hope your journey will always be smoother than mine :)

I will be conducting my bookbinding workshop tomorrow and was buzzing around like a busy bee the past week gathering supplies and thinking of how to make the environment for cozy and pleasant for my participants :)

I really do hope the girls (& guy) participating tomorrow will have fun while learning bookbinding :) It is very therapeutic for me to sit down and sew journals and I hope they will love it too :)

Honestly speaking, I haven't been making cards for such a long time! Well, I guess I had a lot of cards still in stock so I didn't really bothered replenishing my 'inventory' but I am so aching to make some! I just had not enough time in a day!

If you're looking for handbound journals with a touch of class, you should drop by Kita-Kita at Damansara Heights (where Chef & Brew is) to check them out :)

I love that the shop is in a building on its own and the environment surrounding Kita-Kita is quaint yet soothing. It's a place I would love to chill out at and I'm so glad that they love my journals so much, they asked me to make them some with the Batik that they have :)

So, if you need a gift with a touch of class for a person who loves stationeries, you know where to look for it! Bring my batik journal home with you! :)

Last Weekend

Last Saturday, I was at Jaya One for a 3-in-1 Bazaar! It was massive, it was huge, it was Chic Pop 8 + Crafty 4 + Bettr Weekend all in one! :) The crowd were treated to an array of vintage clothing/accessories, handmade arts and crafts and organic produce :)

I was of course under the Crafty 4 section of handmade arts and crafts, bringing with me my handmade journals, butterfly stickers, clothes peg fridge magnets, cards, supplies, and more :) I shared a booth with Melysa of Carbrinice Art and we both had so much fun! :)

Then on Sunday, I went to visit my parents and their friends at Dataran Merdeka. Dad took part in the 42 km event at KL Marathon. The weather was a little bit sunny and we were all perspiring while waiting for them to arrive at the finishing line but it was fun to meet up with them :)

Had a great catch up session, lunch and then Mum & Dad went back to Johor with their friends. I loved this past weekend although it was a very tiring one :)

Butterfly Stickers

For months I have been toying with the idea of making stickers. I contemplated over it because I wasn't sure what materials I needed and I can't afford to spend more on tools! :P So, the idea was merely playing in my mind until a couple of weeks ago when I saw a tutorial online. They were making paper tapes because of the recent washi tape craze and I thought, "hey, I could do this!"

I kept all my scrapbooking scraps in a file and this is the perfect opportunity to upcycle my scraps :) The paper are all so pretty. It's just that some of them are rather small in size but I still kept them anyways :)

Been punching butterflies the whole morning... I may do another butterfly pattern but we'll see. For now, I have these and I'm contented :) They come in 3 sizes and there are 30 in each pack (10 of each sizes). Colours and design are random and they are only RM10 per pack! Bring them home!

They will debut this weekend at Jaya One! Oh, I'll be around the Starbucks area of Jaya One. Look for me! We don't know our booth number yet..

T'was ended a great weekend

I fell in love with Annexe Gallery ever since I went for a photo-shooting session with my friend to Central Market early last year. That was the first time I stumbled upon Annexe Gallery and the other quaint shops downstairs. I love the character and the feel that place exudes. Somehow, it is just an artsy place :)

Just this past weekend, I participated in Annexe Gallery's Arts for Grabs + KL Alternative Bookfest. This is my second foray there, selling my handstitched journals and other handmade knick knacks and I loved every second that I spent there :)

The crowd was constantly flowing in from the start on Saturday, all the way to the end on Sunday. I don't even have time to go around and shop myself :P At one point, I don't even have time to go to the washroom! LOL.

I had a great weekend thanks to the A-team over at Annexe Gallery (Pang, Lee Kwang and Lali), my precious friends Nadiah and Rekha and of course, to all of you who visited, stopped by and bought my handmade journals & knick knacks! I really appreciate you!

Reflections of the day

Today is about to end but there are some things that I would like to reflect on.

1. The God I serve is really a Great God. He is awesome beyond words and I have experienced firsthand that He will not shortchange His children who obeys Him. For in Luke 6:8 it says, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."

2. I really enjoyed my day, especially breakfast with Rekha, Nadiah and Bremen and Alison visiting and even Melissa who brought me Nescafe! :) Thank you God for your goodness in placing these nice souls in my life.

3. Someone stole one of my journals... right from under my nose. You will be judged by God (I don't care which god you worship, you will be judged nonetheless. Just remember that). It really upsets me cos I really put a lot of effort, love and time into creating each journal.

4. Penny, my precious kitten, is sick. We came back to puke and diarrhea on the living room floor. My heart breaks to see her unwell. I pray that God will give her rest and heal her and not let her suffer.

A really sweet friend of mine searched high and low for a sheep image to use for my Logo and requested another friend to make these sweet badges for me! Oh, I am so blessed! Thank you Lord for the people you put around me :)

I pinned one of the badges on my purple pouch where I put all my threads and needles in for sewing my books and I'm so loving it there! Am going to wear the other one when I go for craft markets! :)

Arts For Grabs!

Sewing Journals

Here's a little peek at my tiny work table and the stack of journals that I need to sew :) I try to sew more when I can because the process of bookbinding is not something that can be done in an hour. It takes time to fold the paper, cut the holes, then sew the signatures together, make the covers, add elastic band (or leather cord, etc) and glue the whole thing together... Then the journal needs to be kept under heavy weight to make sure they glue/bond well together before I can take it out and show it to the world.

I love working on this tiny table because it's the only place where I can watch tv when I work. I sit on the floor and sew or fold the papers. If I wanna make cards, it's easier to do that on my craft table in another room. Sometimes I get backache and numb legs from sitting on the floor too long. I have to remind myself to get up and walk around for a while to relax my muscles... :)

But I enjoy making handmade stuffs :) I cannot explain it, I just like it :)

Of Handmade Soaps

My friend, Melissa sent me a link a couple of days ago to Indochine's Natural Handmade Soap. She bought a bar when she went back to Penang and the kind people at Indochine told her, all her friends can get a free bar too if they register on their website.

Well, I have always loved handmade stuff and have been using Michelle's handmade soap for a couple of months now. And now, I'm given a chance to try more handmade soap! Why not? :D

I'm a very happy girl when the Pos Laju guy rang my doorbell :) He was holding a small package. I forgot I registered on Indochine's website. So I asked him what it was and he said he didn't know.. haha...

I love their packaging! It's so pretty, right? And looks contemporary Oriental too :) I was like a little girl given a candy whenever I'm given a package! Can't seem to wait to rip off the wrapper on the package!

The smell is very refreshing and I can't wait to use it! For now, I'm just enjoying the packaging! :P

Showers of Blessings :)

Last week in church, I was challenged to give a certain amount into the offering bag. I had planned to give a different amount because I don't have much and when the ushers asked if I needed an envelope, I said, 'it's ok'. But as my church Elder spoke, I felt that prompting in my heart again and I told God, 'Ok. I give believing that you will bless me back, k?' I asked for the envelope and gave the amount God placed in my heart.

To be honest, it may not be a big amount to many of you but to me, it is, because I am relying on selling my handmade crafts now and don't have a stable income. I believe that He will not shortchange me and just went on my week. Went for supply shopping too and felt 'poor' after that.. But God works in His own way and own timing!

From Wednesday, I received an order to make 25 bookmarks and then subsequent orders for bookmarks came in too when friends saw the photos I posted in Instagram & facebook. And when I uploaded photos of my new mini journals, I received orders too! I was making a list just now cos I was afraid I might miss out any orders since they were all commented on the photos in my facebook page, and when I calculated, the amount that I will get from the sales of my bookmarks and journals is 10 times more than what I put into the offering bag last Sunday!!

He is showering me with His blessings and I am so thankful for that. I believe the lesson He wants to teach me is that; it's not the amount that matters to Him, rather it's my obedience that He's after. Just wanted to share my testimony to the world :D

Journals with leather cord & charm closure

I'm trying a new closure for my journals... instead of using elastic band, I'm trying leather cord this time around. And I'm launching a new journal size too! It's a little journal that fits right into your wallet without you noticing it and it's so cute, you'll definitely fall in love with it :)

Of course, if you like this size but you want it with the elastic band, you can always let me know and I can make that for you :) For now, I'm in love with the leather cords and the charms that go with it.

My little helper & some news

Penny loves to watch me when I craft or rearrange my handmade stuffs... sometimes she wants to play with the things I've made, other times, she just wants that elastic band that's on my table. She loves simple things too and an elastic band is enough to keep her entertained for a couple of hours :)

These pictures were taken when I was using this tray to transport some of my journals to another room to photograph them. The moment I took the journals out, she climbed into the tray and plonked her body on it. So cute!

And then she decided to take a nap in it. So, I just let her while I continue to photograph my journals and do my work :)

On some other news, some of you may know that I was 'co-pilot' for Square Art. It was a venture with a friend selling mosaic tile supplies for art. But as much as I loved the business and the art of it, I had come to a place where I have to make a tough decision to let it go. It pains me because it was my 'baby' too but I guess it's something that had to be done. I need to concentrate on Angelicquirk Handmade Crafts, to think of new ideas and dream of new projects!

I'll be selling scrapbooking/mini album kits as well in the near future! Assembling the kits at the moment and will be listing them soon! :)

Journal Reviews.

I'm a huge journal writer. I believe in documenting life, no matter how simple that life is. Our lives may not be important to many, but they are extremely important to some. I hope that my children and grandchildren will be able to know me through my writing.

I was emailed on the same day by two wonderful journal companies to review their products and was thrilled to do so. They are completely different, but equally charming. I hope you all take a moment to check out their darling shops.

Her covers are sturdy and paper is thick, high quality. I use very inky pens and there is no bleeding. I love the line-less paper. It gives me the freedom to write as I will. The price is amazing for a kettle-stitched book, too! I love that they lay completely flat as I write. As soon as mine is filled out, I will be back to buy another.

Hot Bangkok!

The hubs and I went for a short break in Bangkok over the weekend. We were hosted by the very lovely Samuel & Charis who took time out to bring us about :)

The weather was scorching hot and we were hot, sweaty and sticky all the time! There was definitely a lot of walking around which I didn't mind except for the heat. I love the coffee in Bangkok. For a reasonable price, I actually get to enjoy nice brewed coffee. I am so missing the coffee there right now!

We went to Chatuchak Weekend Market, had dinner at a seafood restaurant next to the Chao Praya River, shopped at Platinum, had North Eastern Thai food at Som Tam, delicious mango sticky rice at Mango Tango, wished I had more money to buy all the fabric in Chinatown (haha), went to Khao San (just for fun) and that's about it!

Didn't do the normal touristy thing this time, as in, we didn't visit the temples or the Grand Palace. We've been there before. This trip is more for supply shopping and taking time out of the country.

What I miss most about BKK? the c-o-f-f-e-e!!! hahaha....

From where I stand...

....I can see the past. Things that have taken place leading me to this place that I am now. Do I regret certain decisions made? Well, we can't live life with regrets now, can we? So, as much as I reflect back and think that there are things that I could have done differently, I remind myself not to regret them.

Every decision we make, pushes us in another direction. There is always two or more ways we can deal with a certain situation and there is never a right or a wrong to a decision made. It is our choice. Of course, I'm not talking about morally or ethical decisions... that would probably have it's impact if we made the 'wrong' choice.

From where I stand now, I can see the present. I have my share of uncertainties and stress... some of you may not believe but that depends on how you live your life. At this present moment, I am trying hard to build my online crafting business and as a freelance writer. For the simple reason that I don't want my brain to turn into mush, I decided to apply to be a freelance writer. A lot of thinking, analyzing and deciphering to do but I guess that is good for my brain cells.

From where I stand, I may not be able to see the future that clearly but I'm working towards it. I want to accomplish my niche. I am not just sitting at home and letting my brain rot :) I never am able to understand how some say they cannot stay at home because they will be bored to death because I never can. I blog, I surf the net, I craft, I read, I write, I clean, I wash, I exercise, I play with my cat, I take time to enjoy my coffee and then work some more. Crafting is work, ok? :) If you don't believe it, try it!

Handmade Gifts from the heart

What is your preference when receiving gifts? Would you like to receive handmade gifts? Or would you prefer store bought ones?

There are a few friends I know who would definitely appreciate and treasure handmade gifts but I'm not sure about the rest. Would they consider handmade gifts 'cheap' because there is no price tag or brand on it?

That is my challenge when it comes to gift giving.

As crafters, we will most often than not, create gifts for our friends or loved ones. We spend time thinking on what to create, what colours and materials to use and then start creating. Handmade gifts are gifts made with love and a lot of heart. They should be appreciated more than store bought ones, don't you think? :P

Batik Journals

Last 2 weeks ago, I had the privilege to meet up with the people at Kita-Kita in Damansara Heights and was given the opportunity to handstitch some journals using Malaysian Batik.

I really love how these batik journals turned out. I have always had a love for things that has an ethnic identity, be it Malay, Chinese, Indian or tribal. I like how there is an identity behind our individual ethnicity. That's why if I visit a country, I want to experience their way of life, see the things they see and not go shopping in malls. We have malls here too..

I love the feel these journals exudes. It's different from the ones I normally make with Japanese or American fabric :) I would have to say, they are all pretty, but they have all have different feelings to me.

Really hoping that these journals will be well received and be loved by their new owners :)

Wednesday is fun!

It was a fun day at Sunway University today :) What am I doing there? LOL... not to enroll for any classes or anything but I was one of the 5 vendors selling our items there. 4 of us were selling handmade items, 1 was selling clothes, scarfs, etc.

Although we were hidden in the Student Centre, we still had a steady stream of crowd. Would have been better if the big banner outside the Centre was not blocking half of the glass door but thank God, people still came in to check us out :)

The organizers (Sunway's Entrepreneur's Club) were very nice and friendly. They came to help me unload my things and even guided me to park my car. Then come tear-down time, they helped load all my things into my car. Am really grateful to them for being so helpful :)

I loved the atmosphere, the air-conditioning (lol!), catching up with Mei, Kricia, Melissa and chatting with the students :) Forgot to take pictures today though... so this is just a boring post without photos :P

Post Crafty Art Market 3

Crafty Art Market 3 was last Saturday! It was a fun day but the crowd wasn't as encouraging as the previous market... probably due to the fact that it was a long weekend. I think most people went outstation for a holiday instead of hanging around the city.

It was still a great day, nonetheless. Great weather as it wasn't glaring hot but still humid and that's why we're all sticky :P and great vendors :) I enjoyed chatting and getting to know some of the vendors I have yet the chance to meet up with.

Was super tired after that and took Sunday off to relax ;P Monday came and I crafted a little. Basically spent the whole day cutting fabric for new journals! Loving the new fabrics! :)

Made these with the new fabric. I love each of them... they all have a different mood to them, no? :)

Gorgeous Lights

I love the lights & shadows coming from this tealight holder :) There was a black out last night and these pretty tealight holders kept me company. Thank God the weather was cool but it took the TNB people sooooo long to come to our area to repair whatever went wrong.

Altered Tealight Holder

As I've mentioned in my previous post, I'm hopelessly addicted to washi tape at the moment. So much so that I'm neglecting cardmaking and bookbinding for a while. Haha.... Yesterday, I made an altered box, upcycled it into something pretty to hold my washi tapes. Decorated it with washi tape too :)

And today, I'm decorating tealight holders with washi tapes. They look so darn good! My new product line for the upcoming craft market at Jaya One, Crafty 3 @ 30th April (Sat).

If you like them, you better come and grab them home! :) I'm going to apply a layer of varnish on it to to protect it further... by the way, it doesn't only have to be a tealight holder, you can use it to put paper clips, your rings, earrings... and it's really classy cos it's made of glass :)

Altered Box

Still a work in progress cos I may decorate it more as time goes by but here's what I did to a box we most probably will throw away... I'm recycling and upcycling and loving it! :)

I wonder how many of you remember the apollo biscuit snacks we used to have when we were kids. I bought a box from a friend sometime back and it was totally fun eating something I used to love as a kid. Now that the snack is gone.. I was wondering what to do with the box and with my recent obsession for washi tape, I thought, hey, why not make a box to put them in!

And that's where the inspiration for this project came from :)

First I covered the whole box with kraft paper. Well, I guess most of you know how much I love kraft paper by now. I actually applied kraft paper to the inside bottom of the box as well to strengthen the bottom. I don't like a flimsy box :)

After the glue dried slightly, I applied washi tape to every corner of the box! :) I don't have a lot of washi tape yet so there's repetition of the tape used but I'm kinda liking it. I just doodled a bit on the box but that was after I took the pictures so maybe I'll share pictures after I play with the box a bit more :P

The little 'Fragile' and 'Keep Dry' sticker is actually saved from the packaging that the washi tapes came in :) I thought they were cute and saved them to use for my box :)

Slack-a-rack-dack....

Ok... so the title doesn't really make sense. But yup, I've been slacking a little bit. I wouldn't say I was totally unproductive but I was not up to speed or up to my expectations. It could be the lack of sleep due to my hubby being sick (and thus coughing the night away.. waking me up endless times.. pity him.. he doesn't get to sleep much either) and also the fact that Penny underwent surgery to be spayed last Wednesday. I was awake at times during the first 2 nights to make sure she's ok.

Still feeling l-a-z-y..... I have a couple of ideas brewing in my mind. Excited to put them into action. Also need to think of ways to make more money... haha. Have to be more discipline and really put my thoughts to action.

Penny recuperating

Penny went for spaying yesterday morning. Then we brought her home to recuperate... so sad to see a big patch of her fur removed and the incision on her side. She was pretty upset initially then settled down a bit after we allowed her to sleep on our bed. We actually put her in her cage but she somehow managed to open the cage door by herself! Walked up the stairs and jumped on the bed! >.<

She was totally not supposed to do that right after surgery! sigh.....

She slept the whole night at my feet but this morning I had to put her in her cage cos I am worried that she might follow me up and down the stairs. She's very upset now... meow-ing away and trying to open the cage door... SIGH....

Sigh... breaks my heart to hear her meow like that... But I can't risk her walking up or down the stairs following me around. I want her to heal....

It's Chic...

.. to participate at the Chic Pop Street Market! :P It's my first time participating and oh my, am I glad I did! The organizers are really friendly and the crowd was amazing!! :) Saw many smiles and that really made my day :)

I love people watching and it was fun watching people during Chic Pop. Lots of funky individuals all dressed up! I love their style although I'm more of a t-shirt/jeans kinda girl. I normally don't wear prints (or rarely) and prefers casual clothing... but I do like looking at people who dresses in vintage clothing. I think vintage clothing has style! :D

I had a lot of fun that day! I was hot and sticky but I'm happy! I guess going out for craft/art markets is a good thing for me cos I tend to stay at home to craft most times.. haha... craft/art markets allows me to have human interaction! :P

One of the cards I made for my card kits! Yes, I'm offering card kits now :) I know it's very expensive to buy supplies & tools and so I've made it more affordable for you to create beautiful cards on your own without feeling too big a pinch! :)

I have prepared the cardstock, rounded the corners (for designs with rounded corners), stamped the images, punched out the patterned papers with punchers and basically prepared most of the things you need. All you have to do is to colour the image and assemble them!

I have also included a picture sample of the card and some tips so that you can work on them at home. It's really simple & easy! :)

Personalized Handstitched Journal

I love it when my dear friend (& supporter) personalizes something she purchased from me :) Met up with Shirl yesterday morning for a chatty brunch session and also cos she wanted to get a present for her SIL. She asked me to bring some of the handstitched journals that I have for her to choose and so I did :)

She chose the giraffe print and said she will personalize it when she gets back home and I told her to email me a photo! :) And this is what she did! :)

She made the already pretty giraffe print (I love this print) even prettier! Gosh, I love how she used the mosaic tiles to make the name and how she added bling to the flower buds. It's not that visible but it's there! ;)

Doing my small part

When the tsunami hit Japan, I felt really bad for the people there and had thought to do something to raise funds for the victims there. Then a follower at my facebook page emailed me asking me if I have plans to do anything to help as well. But I was really tied up last week and couldn't prepare stuffs till now but here I am now.

Below are the card sets that I'm selling to raise funds. Just email me to order as I will be making it as the requests comes in. 50% of the sale will go towards helping the people in Japan. I will make my donation through World Vision Malaysia.

If any of you are not from Malaysia but wishes to help. I will list these cards on Etsy as well. If you see that it's sold, just email me and I will re-list it again.

Everything you purchase from Etsy or my Facebook page from now till end of March will also contribute towards the relief fund.

Eco Design Bazaar

I was over at the Weld on Saturday. Participated in the Graphic Goes Green bazaar organized by CutOut magazine. It's been a while since I last went to the Weld. Honestly I've ever been there only for lunch with my hubs when he was working nearby previously. Else, I don't really go to that part of town. So, when the organizer said that the event is at the Weld, I was pondering if they would have crowd seeing that it's not really KLCC or Pavillion :P

There was not a lot of crowd and I found out from other vendors that the Weld survives mainly on office crowd so they don't really have weekend crowd. Even Delifrance closes at 3pm on Saturday and does not open on Sunday! That was an eye opener since I never know of any cafes that closes on weekends... LOL.

That said, I had fun because I'm once again surrounded by crafters and although the crowd wasn't pouring in as we expected, there was a constant flow of people, albeit not many. Well, it gave us a chance to chit-chat and see other crafters' wares :)

I'll be at Chic Pop Market next! On the 2nd April at Jaya One. So, come say 'hi', bring home an item or two (or more!) and immerse yourself in creativity and be rejunevated :)

Angelicquirk will be part of yet another super duper fun market! This time it's the Chic Pop Street Market at Jaya One on the 2nd April!! :)

It's in just about another 2 weeks and it's pretty exciting. There's gonna be a lot of fun activities and contests on that day besides lots of pretty things that you can buy back for yourself or your loved ones! :)

Coptic Stitching

Just like how the Copts did wayyyyyyy back in the 2AD. They did not have this cute matryoshka fabric back then... hehehe... so, lucky me! :P

I really like the little chain motif that coptic binding has on the spine of the book. It's pretty and hey, this one allows the book to lie flat too! I used to love buying journals and notebooks but now, I make them! erm, I still am very tempted to buy journals, though... I love pretty stationaries! Can't help it! If I have a million bucks, I think a lot of it will go into stationaries, scrapbooking supplies and photography! :P

See the lovely matryoshka fabric? It's oh so pretty, right? Cute matryoshka dolls in a row... I think they really do stand out against the black background! and you can get this lovely fabric from Fabric Fanatics! :)

Most of my fabric for my journals are from Fabric Fanatics... she's really great and communicative so I definitely recommend you to get fabrics from her! :)

Kettle Stitched Journal

I've been wanting to share more pictures of my handstitched journals but, erm... I've been procrastinating on photographing them. LOL... I've been in a creative and productivity slum recently. Hating the feeling because it makes me feel really lazy. And most of the time, I'm more productive at night... like an owl.. haha...

Anyways, I plucked my lazy bum away from my procrastinating seat and finally took some pictures. I even listed a couple of items on Etsy! woot woot!! Let's just keep those fingers crossed that it will translate into sales :D

A learning process

Life is a learning process... no matter where we are in life, what titles or positions we have or had under our belts, or how old we are, there are always things out there for us to experience and learn. Because we can never finish learning everything that life has to offer.

But one of the few things I've learned so far is to be true to yourself. To be honest and sincere in the things that we do. To be happy doing it and if sharing, share genuinely. We answer to God and to ourselves. So if we can honestly justify our actions to God and to ourselves, then no one else's opinions matter.

Principles and ethics of life needs to be adhered to.

We cannot stop people from their actions but theirs is not for us to judge. We just need to take care of our own actions. Be true to ourself.

And be happy doing it. This is a whole new phase of life for me and I'm loving all the lessons being thrown my way :)

Shadow Box Frame

My grandma's 78th Birthday was last week and we gathered as a family to take her out for dinner and celebrate with her :) It was fun gathering together, chatting, catching up, laughing and just enjoying each other's company.

Instead of chicken essence, toiletries, etc as birthday gift, this year, I made my grandma a gift from the heart :) My only regret is that this photo doesn't have my brother in it... he's in the US for post-graduate studies at the moment and so, that's why he's not in the picture... sobs.

This photo was taken during my mum's birthday last December :) We celebrated it with her friends as well. Grandma followed us back to Johor to celebrate with her. Was fun :)

I love shadow boxes... because I can just put any embellishments I want and make everything more 3D :) I had wanted to make one of these for the longest time but as always, I'm queen procrastinator, you know... haha

Am gonna make more :) Warning : Making this can get addictive :)

Handmade Market, Lex Empire Gallery

We were at Lex, Empire Gallery Subang last Saturday. It was the first Handmade Market organized in that mall and it was fun! :) Well, the crowd was not as encouraging as the previous markets that I've participated in but it was fun! I guess there was not enough publicity yet (or they were not shameless enough in telling people about the event, as my friend puts it... hahahahaha)

Here's some pictures of my booth & stuffs :) I shared a booth with Square Art and my resident photographer/postcard buddy was there too!

I guess the organizers really have to step it up to promote the Handmade Market better to draw in the crowd.. especially cos they are on the 2nd floor of the mall and hidden in one corner.. Some feedback I heard from people were that the people at the information counters were not fully informed, there were not enough buntings and clear signages... my dad even had to put one of the bunting up properly on his way down the escalator... seems it was overturned.. someone must have knocked it over... hmmmm

That said, because the crowd was not as packed, it gave me the chance to go mingling with the other sellers and take lotsa pictures! Something I was never able to do at other craft markets! Well, pros and cons! hahahaha.... Still, I'm willing to go give it another try if there's another handmade market there... cos I like the fun people I surround myself with :)

A special thanks to my parents, grandma & aunt who came to support me too... It really means a lot to me! And as always, my hubby is there to help me & keep me company :) He's the sweetest! Oh, and Alvin (postcard/photographer) was around the whole day on Saturday too so I was not alone... yeay! :)

Go green

I try to recycle and go green whenever I can.... like saving my scraps cos I *know* that I will use them someday, up-cycling used calendars, use own paper bags or grocery bags when out grocery shopping (unless I ran out of bags for my dustbins... I use my own bag), blah blah blah. I know I'm still not that 'green' yet but I hope to contribute to Mother Earth however I can...

I'm gonna share with you now, how I'm storing my mosaic tiles. I bought them loose in little plastic bags so they don't come with a container and I prefer them separated properly so that it's easier for me to pick and choose which colour to use.

So, I thought of something.... haha... you know those egg containers? Those that comes either in plastic or carton materials? They have many compartments and do make a good separator for my tiles! Look at how pretty the colours are! :D

I separated them according to colour scheme... hehe... just how I like it! And you can stack up the cartons together on top of each other if you've got a lot of colours! :)

I love how I've managed to go green & save some $$ too along the way! Gonna be debuting my mosaic tile frames this coming Saturday at Lex, Empire Gallery Subang! I'm taking part in that craft market too... that's the last one for now... Not sure when's the next craft market... so be sure to catch us there! :)

Am thankful for the little things in life.... like being able to sleep in when tired, to be able to stay up late into the night when absorbed in creative work.... to be able to take time out to read a book... to have my kitty accompanying me when I'm working.... and lots more.

I remind myself to be grateful to the little things in life once in a while. Especially when I'm drained or stressed. I forget sometimes and complain nuts but today, I just feel thankful :)

Fat Cats

I made some cards with these fat cats from Penny Black sometime back... it was posted on my Facebook page, I think... not sure if I've shared it here... will double check and if it's not already posted, I will share it :)

Anyways, a very nice girl saw those cards and asked if she could request them to be made into bookmarks for her friend. She mentioned that if she were to give her friend a card, her friend might just chuck it aside after reading it but if she gives her a set of bookmarks, her friend may just use it and that would make her happy :) Oh, her friend adores fat cats... hence the request for a set of fat cat bookmarks! :)

I made the bookmarks in different colours and different sizes to jazz it all up and make it more fun! :) Mainly used organza ribbon cos it's just so much prettier than normal ones... but I did use one in satin... again, just so it's all different :)

These bookmarks are already couriered and should probably reach her this very day as this post is being uploaded :) I do hope she likes them....

My mum's handmade blooms made a debut too... this time as badges/brooches... I attached the pin at the back so that you can pin it on your shirt, on your bag or even attach it to your plain elastic bands to spruce it up! You're technically getting a lot of of each bloom! :)

p/s : 7 out of the 8 frames are sold but you can always send me an email to request for it... the blooms are mostly sold too but again, nothing like an email to inform me what you want and we'll get it done for you! :)

Crafty Art Market 2 @ Jaya One

I was over at Jaya One for the Crafty Art Market yesterday and it was great fun! One thing I've learned is that you can never really guess which of your product is going to sell better... haha.... Different crowd, different wants & needs, I guess. But I'm slowly learning what type of products I have to create to pull in more crowd! :)

Custom Hand-stitched Batik Journals

I guess I'm ever so happy & grateful to have learned bookbinding from the very talented Syam :) I can't explain how I love to make things by hand... haha... it's a passion that I can never explain. People who share my same interest or love for handmade stuffs will understand the rustic goodness of it but some won't.

I love my passion for arts.... handmade cards, book thongs, wire-bound journals, hand-stitched journals, photography, blah blah blah.... there's a lot more things in the pipeline that I'm planning in my head and hopefully they will materialize soon :)

These are two custom request Batik Hand-stitched Journals that I've made. I actually practiced making a lot more of these before making these 2. Was stitching-crazy! but Practice makes perfect, ~~I hope~~ *fingers crossed! :P

Here's what I made based on CP's Sketch #101 :) Love the little submarine... haha... Been wanting to use my Waltzing Mouse stamps for a while but never got to it! I wonder why! They are so cute!

Valentine is in the air

Time passes so quickly.... it feels like I just entered into 2011 but now it's past February, celebrated (& is still celebrating) Chinese New Year cos there's 15 days of celebration and soon it will be Valentine's day... wow... I really hope that time can stand still for a while sometimes. Just for a while...

Anyway, I praise God that I received some card orders for Valentine's day. One of them is a custom order from a reader and another is from an ex-colleague. Received some non-Valentine day orders as well today.. will get cracking on it tonight!

Missing little mouse

My mum used to call me a mouse... cos I love to snack a lot and whenever she hears the cupboard in the kitchen open or the tupperwares being opened, she kinda knew it was me trying to sneak some snacks about... hahahaha.... my brother doesn't really snack so it is almost 100% me :P

Well, I've been MIA from my blog for a bit... was busy preparing for KLPAC, then took a break, attended a workshop and then in a blink of an eye, it was Chinese New Year! :) and that means, cleaning, washing, snacking, late nights and family get-together! :)

So, I haven't really been crafting... boo hoo.... I really admire crafters who creates daily like Amy! :) lol, girl, you're my inspiration... I do lurk eventhough I am missing in the comments section... sorry about that... love all your cards, though! :D

Oh, here's what the missing little mouse made about 2 weeks ago for a custom order. My friend was invited to a rainbow-themed party and requested for a custom order card & gift tag set. Here's what I made for him :)

Book Binding

I attended a book binding workshop over the last couple of days and it was fun! I guess the crowd played a very important role :) All of us had some sort of craft background and could speak the same lingo! haha... And Syam was the sweetest teacher I ever had! :)

I had wanted to learn book binding since 3 years ago? At that time, I even researched online, how to do it and printed out all the materials but somehow printed pdfs lack that human interaction no? :P Also, I couldn't figure out a couple of things and so I just left it as that.

I couldn't be happier when I met Syam during AFG last Dec and she said she conducts workshops! :)

KLPAC Open Day

I participated at the KLPAC Open Day last Sunday! The weather was hawttttt..... but thank God there was fan in the tent provided which helped a little :) And I tried to stay inside the shade as much as I can.. haha... Outdoor craft markets are not so fun in Malaysia cos of the weather :P

It drizzled on and off towards the evening. I was afraid that it will drive away the crowd but to my surprise, they were still walking from stall to stall. Some even had their own umbrellas! :)

Wanted to blog about these bookmarks I made yesterday but Blogger seems to be having some issues with me... The page kept loading but doesn't allow me to post pictures or blog.. boo hoo.... so here I am :)

Made these bookmarks I really, really love using twine! I am loving the twines and the beads... I got the beads some time back but erm, it was an impulse buy so I had no idea what to do with them after purchasing them....

But now, I am glade I bought them! :) I am having so much fun making these bookmarks! Am running out of beads, though... hmmm... beads shopping, anyone? Shirl? :P

It started first with stamping and cutting the images out.... then colouring, blending and glossing......

And then, more conceptualization to turn them into fun cards for Valentine's Day! :)

Well, you can use them for other occasions too... birthdays or just to say "I Love You".... Cards are coming back in trend, you know... :P as my friend calls it, "Retro e-mails"
