Cork Embellishments

Before I started Project Life in 2013, I was just starting to get into scrapbooking. I wanted to preserve memories and I love how beautifully scrapbooking makes that. However, I wanted to remember daily bits and pieces too and Project Life made that so much easier :) I would still scrap big events but for our everyday life, I prefer the Project Life method.

And because of that, I am always on the lookout for embellishments that I could use to jazz up the little 3x4 or 4x6 cards. Embellishments that are pretty and yet does not add too much bulk (else it wouldn't fit in the pockets.. haha).

So when I saw that Studio Calico was selling these DCWV cork sheets, I knew I wanted to make some cork shapes for my Project Life pages. I bought my supplies and then I procrastinated (that and I needed new scissors. My old cutter bee basically destroyed my first batch of cork shapes).

I use Memento Tuxedo Black, PTI's vintage cream and Hero Art's Fresh Peach. You've got to wait a a little for the ink to set before handling them (else you get inky fingers... like me). Alternatively, you could heat dry them with heat gun. I want to try embossing them. I think that would be pretty too.

And you would need very sharp scissors to cut these babies. I used my old cutter bee and it was a disaster. The shapes frayed and turned out really badly. These were all cut after I bought a new pair of cutter bee.. So, do take note of that.

If you like any of these and don't have the time to make them, you could custom request and I will make and list them in my shop for you to purchase.

Project Life 2013 ... Week 1 & 2

So, I decided to join the many wonderful ladies out there on the Project Life train this year. I ordered 3 different types of page protectors so that I can jazz things up if and when I want to :)

Will be using the 6x12 page protectors for dividing up the months.... I realized I can't put embellishments that are too bulky. Unlike scrapbook pages, these page protectors doesn't seem to be able to 'withstand' the bulk... haha...

I am using my existing patterned paper stash from my Studio Calico monthly kits and some of my 6x6 paper pads...

I kinda like softer colors and will continue to hunt for pastel colored patterned papers from now on :) Loving banners and washi tapes too.

Spending time in Vegas with Penny (mostly..) as hubby needs to go to work.

I love how hubby is so energetic and tries to bring me around on Friday night before we leave Vegas on Saturday. And on Sunday, he drove me to Anaheim to meet Amy. I really appreciate him for that as I know he was still tired from the drive on Saturday (and he still has work to do...). It's so wonderful to meet Amy after knowing her for years online. She is so sweet and she even got our baby some gifts! What a blessing! I am super grateful :D

Lovely Day

It's official... I l-o-v-e Studio Calico. Something about their kits and choice of paper jives with me... There are many beautiful kits out there too but sometimes it's just which strikes a cord on our heartstring, yes? :)

The layout I made here is scrap-lifted from Jessy and she's the featured artist for this week over at Studio Calico. She made such a beautiful layout and I just love how she effortlessly cuts out pieces of patterned paper to use. I'm learning to do that now too. Afterall, they are supposed to help me make a pretty layout, not stay in the paper pad :P

Photo was taken on a very lovely day in the Rose Garden @ Werribee Park. I must say, that is one of my favorite places in Melbourne now. Considering the fact that it is quite a drive away but it is very much worth it! I would want to go there again whenever I drop by Melbourne :)

Close up.... I've seen these twine inspirations on blogs a lot and finally decided to try it for myself!

I love the twirls they make, actually. I think I will use them more in my future layouts :) Oh, and the doilies are inspired by a tutorial over at Jessy's blog too. I am loving the scrunched-up effect. As you can see, they are subtly inked too :)

And here's the full layout. How's it? I think this is one of my favorites so far!

Steal a Kiss

The skies are getting brighter earlier this week. Woke up at 6.30 am to see the sky so bright, I thought it was at least 8 am! Am still adjusting to waking up to cool weather... there's just something about the cold that makes you feel like snuggling longer under the sheets and not wake up, doesn't it?

Living in the States for the past month or so now has been a very pleasant experience, especially when it comes to buying craft supplies! I have to be honest, it IS a joy to buy things now and I finally joined a kit club! First time ever!! And I am loving the kits I received so far (2 only.... :P)

I finally created a layout today... and here it is! This photo was taken during Christmas 2011 in Bangsar Village 2 back in Malaysia.

Grandma, Mum & me

I stamped some butterflies into the PP background as well just for added dimensions as I don't have everything I used to have with me... I am slowing getting my supplies again... it will take some time but for now, I am teaching myself to use what I have :)

Hope you like my layout! :)
