I emailed Hannah of Sherbet Blossom a couple of months ago asking if she would do a review on my handstitched journals and to my delight, she replied with a 'yes' :)

I have been visiting Hannah's blog for quite some time and really love her posts and reviews so I asked if she could help me with my indie business. I sent her a kettle-stitched journal as a token of appreciation too and am very happy that she likes it! :)

Journal Reviews.

I'm a huge journal writer. I believe in documenting life, no matter how simple that life is. Our lives may not be important to many, but they are extremely important to some. I hope that my children and grandchildren will be able to know me through my writing.

I was emailed on the same day by two wonderful journal companies to review their products and was thrilled to do so. They are completely different, but equally charming. I hope you all take a moment to check out their darling shops.

Evelin is a small, independent handmade crafter. She owns a darling etsy shop full of paper crafting galore. Her journals are darling and very well-made. I love the vintage style. Her covers are sturdy and paper is thick, high quality. I use very inky pens and there is no bleeding. I love the line-less paper. It gives me the freedom to write as I will. The price is amazing for a kettle-stitched book, too! I love that they lay completely flat as I write. As soon as mine is filled out, I will be back to buy another.

Product Review : Marvy Uchida mini Glue Tape

The LSS that I frequent (so frequent <pun intended>, the shop assistants there and I are friends now :), kwim?) asked if I would like to do a product review for them and I was trilled. Why wouldn't I? I get to try out a product :D

My first impression of it was... whoa... what a cute looking thing! And it would take so little space in my pencil case :D And erm, well, a girl just loves cute things, right?  This has got be be one of the cutest looking product in the scrapbooking market at the moment... well, in the glue tape category at least :P You know how 'mini' this thing really is? Only about 2.75 inches!!!! It's that tiny. 

I brought it home and tried it on my projects. It's easy to hold. Nice grip and the adhesive slides out easily. For a product so small, it sure packs a punch! The adhesive is quite strong too. In fact, I used it on photos, acetate, paper & ribbon and they all held down nicely :) Although, I feel that Kokuyo's Dotliner's stick much stronger, you wouldn't be able to peel off your project once you apply this little baby's adhesive on it and press them down firmly.

All in all, I give this glue tape a 4.5/5 stars! It does its job well, saves space in your pencil/scapbook case and is a steal! The LSS told me it's less than RM 10!! :) How cool is that?

Second Thoughts

Finished the "Tales of Beedle the Bard" in one sitting. Feeling that it's a waste of money because I would have been able to finish it in MPH and not spend the money to buy it. Maybe I should sell it on eBay or something. Was thinking of buying it to complete the Harry Potter series but am having second thoughts now.

Any one wants to buy it? It's only been read once :P

Tears overflow...

..... from watching 'The Reader'.


what? Don't judge me. It's a rather moving and thought-provoking movie to me. To some, it may just be another movie but not to me. And to many others, they just want to see Kate Winslet naked again...... hmmmm

I enjoy movie of this genre, I just don't like the fact that two people who feel deeply for each other can't end up together. For various reasons. Which in this movie's case is the how both of them are so introvert in their feelings. Somehow, I don't think age is an issue for them as they both seem not to care that people see them together. Especially Michael. He totally showed her that he disregards how people think of their age gap by kissing her in plain view of the shopkeeper who called Hannah, his mother. That was very sweet.

It moved me how Hannah left a deep mark in Michael's heart and how that mark didn't heal over time. He just carried that burden with him through stages of his life. Hannah left him to avoid being promoted because she's hiding her secret which I think was a bit silly. She could've just told her superior that she was happy where she is and decline the promotion. They could still be together then.

Hannah's secret and her determination to safeguard it, landed her in life imprisonment. Michael, realizing her secret almost met up with her in the lock-up to talk to her but he backed out, at the last minute. I feel that he is still too hurt as to why she left him abruptly, without saying goodbye some 8 years ago and that he still loves her too much. He was probably just too hurt to face her again. She is not the sort who would explain the reason why she left even if he did meet her, I think.

It is in a way, a beautiful but tragic love story. Hannah is egoistic in a way because she doesn't want the world to know her incapability but she is naive and straightforward as well. That I find both endearing and silly. To her, some things need to be done and it has to be done. Michael, on the other hand, is a sweet guy. Caring to her by reading her stories, something she loves and always having a piece of her in his heart which makes it hard for him to open up to others. She was his first and in a way, I think, his only true love. Their bond and attraction is just beyond words.

It tugs at my heartstring. I /love-hate/ unrequited love stories. And if you've read till here and have not watched the movie, I think you've read too many spoilers.... fortunately/unfortunately?

Note : Don't ever watch a romantic, touching, sentimental kinda movie when you feel even the teensiest bit depressed. Makes you cry in buckets instead of small pails... HEHE... whatever will the difference be, right?

Credit Card : Boon or Bane?

What is your opinion on credit card?

Is it convenience? Flexibility to buy something now and pay later? A hassle because you can't track what you spent?

A lady I spoke to is dead against credit cards. She feels that credit cards deal a lot of damage to the financial health of a lot of people, namely youngsters who just came out to the working world. She is a bit on the wiser side of the age ruler but what she said bears truth.

In this current financial fiasco, if you do not handle your spending well, you could be in trouble.

Credit card allows you to buy something now and pay 30 days later but if you don't pay the full amount by the due date, the interest rate is exorbitant. And although the government has reduced the interest rate on credit cards, it's still about 13.5% p.a. Banks usually don't put the p.a interest rate visibly :P They just publish the 1.3% p.m (per month) rate. Which seem little but is actually not when compounded.

A lot of people I know, just swipe their cards and pay the minimum by month end. By paying the minimum, there's no 'penalty' from the bank and they can still use their cards but they usually don't realize the interest charged to them the following month. And if you continue to pay the minimum each consecutive month, you'll soon realize you're just serving the interest.

On the other hand, credit card provides convenience and I think safety. I like using credit card for numerous reasons. It's convenient because I can use it almost anywhere. I feel safer because I don't carry a lot of cash on me. It's flexible if I need to purchase something on installment (usually I search for those with 0% installment plan lah). And I get to enjoy the item first and pay only 30 days later! Ain't that cool? :)

I think the bottomline is that people need to be educated on using credit cards and how having one doesn't mean you can literally live on credit. If you don't have the money to pay by month end, please don't just swipe your card. You'll be living on borrowed money and that's why the whole world is suffering from financial meltdown. A lot of us has been living on borrowed money. Money we have not yet earned.

It's easy to swipe the card. And it feels good to buy, buy, buy. But we need to have control, no?

For me, I know how much a month I can spend. And yes, I use my credit card when doing so. But because I know my budget, I tend not to overspend. Using the credit card gives me points that I can accumulate and exchange for something when I have enough points. So, it's a good thing!

I get to enjoy my item first, collect points and redeem something else in the future!

So, for all the misuse of credit cards, I believe that it is also a good medium. It probably was design with goodness in mind but well, we humans tend to misuse goodness.... Like morphine. It was discovered to relief pain but humans use it to get 'high'.

The ball is in your court. Take control of your own financial health :)

Not helpful helpline

I'm not very happy with Hewlett-Packard. Actually I'm very annoyed. I don't think I'll ever purchase another laptop/desktop/whatever from HP anymore in the future.

Sure, my tablet PC "looks" cool. But it crashed on me twice already. And no, I don't simply open attachments or download stuffs.

And you know what? Their helpline is not helpful at all (pun intended). Firstly, the person talks with very heavy accent which makes him/her very difficult to understand, then they disconnected my line a few times, made me explain the same problem numerous times to different people and in the end, they tell me I have to go down to their Service Centre to have my recovery disk replaced. And that I will be charged.... wtf.

I have 3 years warranty extended on this baby and I am so regretting it.

Tell me, what's the use of having a Helpline (phone/email) when your ultimate response for everything is that we, the consumer, has to go to the blardy service centre???? Might as well save some resources and abolish the helpline (!).

Can't wait for this release, though!

I have an addiction to the Chronicles of Narnia. So much so that I wish it really is true and I could be sucked into it. Only thing is, I wouldn't want to return. Well, I think the Pevensies might not have wanted to, either.

Yes, I know I'm no longer a 'child' and in the book only children were 'allowed' into Narnia from our world. I would like to think I have the soul of a child still and that in my heart of hearts, I am forever one *grins*

Can't wait for the release of Prince Caspian...let's just hope it won't dissappoint me. I have a very *vivid* imagination :D

It tells the truth? Oh, really...

I'm talking about the movie "The Golden Compass". I know, I'm a bit late on catching up on my movies but better late than never, right?

The cast it boasts is admirable. With yummy eye-candies in the likes of Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green, it should be worth a watch just because of them :) The CGI and sets are beautiful to boot too. I am impressed with the cinematographics, music scores and the acting.

Sad thing is, I don't really understand the movie. Initially I thought, heck, as the show progresses, it might make more sense. You know, like those suspense movies? But it never did. I give it credit for all the beauty and the actions it has but a solid story line?? One that expands? Nada. Nope. Zilch.

BF says maybe we have to read the book first. But that doesn't make sense. Most movie adaptations from books were of course not as great as the writings but it made sense. I could understand the plot in Memoirs of a Geisha, LOTR, Narnia, Harry Potter series to name a few but this one just doesn't really have the gelling effect.

In terms of special effects and eye-candies, I think it's worth a watch but it's nothing to shout about. Maybe the book ain't that worth reading either. I have read all the above mentioned books, though. Every single one of them. Of course, the power of the mind is greater than what any movie producer can create but this one, sigh. I think they need to make it more 'understandable'. I was still in the 'huh'? mode when the credits came up. Did my research on it in Wiki but uhm, I still think this plot doesn't really tickle my fancy and boy, am I one to love fantasy.
